Local Issues

My husband and I (sound like royalty!) have been without a dog for the last year.  We thought about it carefully before we embarked on looking for another.  We now have ‘Poppie’, a West Highland White Terrier which we both love and enjoy taking for walks. ( I have got to know more neighbours with her than in the previous 10 years that we have lived here).

On to my main point of my writing.

I am absolutely  shocked at the amount of DOG POO on our paths and verges. I am a responsible dog owner, as are many of the other people with whom I speak on my walks. I see them pick up and take their Dog Poo home. However, there is a contingent that blatantly ignores the law and leaves this mess on our pathways and verges. I would like to invite the community to keep a look out for the culprits. Perhaps if someone has to pay a £1000 fine they will behave more responsibly. It is just laziness and dirty. The poo bags are free from the town hall or very cheap from Wilkinsons and the supermarkets. I also walk with my grandchildren who are 3 and 4 years old. I would not like them to fall into this mess as it can be very dangerous.

Sincerely

Susan Kinghorn

A Simple Solution

Grab it – Always keep a supply of plastic bags near your dog’s lead so you don’t forget to take a poop scoop bag with you on every walk. Simply insert your hand in the plastic bag and pick up your dog's waste. It’s easy and not as bad as you think!

Bag it – Carefully turn the plastic bag inside out and your dog's mess will then be ‘bagged’.

Bin it – Dispose of your bag in a ‘Poop’ bin. Contrary to popular belief, dog waste can also be put into a public litterbin if a specific dog waste bin is not provided.
