Dom, the cute, lively youngster – who turned one this month -
Dom is named after BBC Radio One breakfast show newsreader Dominic Byrne, whose favourite animal at the zoo is the pup’s dad, Berkley.

A small team of dedicated volunteers got to grips with the invading scrub on Whipsnade Green on a bright but chilly Sunday in December. Thankfully much hard work and the essential bonfire helped to keep both the scrub and the cold at bay. Pictured left to right are: Kate Sheard (NT Warden), Charles Frost, Richard Gutteridge and Pam Ward.
The bank holiday weekend in late May provided beautiful weather (for a change!) and
visitors to the Craft Fair held at the Old Hunters Lodge, Whipsnade, were able to
bask in glorious sunshine. The event was organised by, and staged in support of,
the British Heart Foundation. Stalls ranged from delicate jewellery and finely crafted

The Dell Farm Fun Day, held on Sunday 7th June, managed to pack lots of fun and games into a busy afternoon, despite the weather oscillating between warm and sunny one minute, and heavy showers the next! Hundreds of visitors from all over South Beds and beyond came to enjoy the delights on offer, and a very enjoyable time was had by all.

Whipsnade Zoo played host to another “Zoo Stampede” 10K road race on Sunday 7th June, an annual event superbly organised by Dunstable Road Runners. The serious event, which attracted many hundreds of entries from across the south of England, was followed by a 2K fun run for youngsters and adults alike. A water station for all runners keen to ensure that their tough and thirsty work did not result in dangerous dehydration, was was staffed by local Scouts, under the guidance of Paul Rushmer and his leadership team. The photographs below give a flavour of the day, with official results and more piccies to follow shortly.

July 2009 marked a major occasion in the life of Whipsnade, with a wide range of
events and activities that all contributed to the Village Festival. The first week
kicked off with the Scarecrow competition, and various amusing examples were displayed
